Schmidt-Newtonian Optical Systems
Schmidt-Newtonian corrector lenses and mirrors are individually figured to create a superior optical system that is renowned for its exquisite smoothness and performance. Pyrex® Primary Mirror Premium-grade Pyrex mirrors are used in all Schmidt-Newtonian optical systems, providing exceptional thermal stability versus competing models using standard plate glass. New Design LXD75 Equatorial Mount
Designed for high-performance observing and astrophotography, the LXD75 series sets a new standard in its price class for sturdiness, precision operation and smoothness of movement. With the LXD75, Meade engineers have created a virtually backlash free equatorial mount incorporating heavy-duty castings and four high-precision, stainless steel ball bearings in both RA and Dec axes.

New Design Heavy-Duty Tripod
The heavy-duty, all-metal field tripod uses a locking spreader bar (with three 1.25"/2" eyepiece holders) to lock each leg in place, virtually eliminating flexure. Each leg has two anodized aluminum leg extension locks with an internal brake to eliminate slipping of the internal extending leg. These locks face inward, so that no accidental bumping of the leg locks can occur.

Ultra-High Transmission Coating (UHTC)
Build upon the already high-quality reflectivity and transmission of Meade standard optics with UHTC technology. Through the use of vacuum-deposited exotic coatings on all four optical surfaces, UHTC increases light transmission by roughly 20% when averaged over the entire visible spectrum. Image brightness of the 10" LX200 GPS-SMT, for example, is effectively increased by about one full inch of aperture.
